The Probe tool enables you to view a single document label in the Galaxy or ThemeView. This label reveals the selected document's key terms The Probe tool can also be used to select an area of documents, with the contributions of terms in the area displaying in the Summary window.
To use the Probe tool to check the terms in one document, perform the following procedure.
From the Galaxy
or ThemeView window, click the Probe
button , or from the Galaxy or ThemeView Tools menu, select
Probe. The
Probe cursor will display as you mouse over the dataset in the Galaxy
or ThemeView window.
Click the Probe cursor on the Galaxy or ThemeView
in an area of interest. The
Probe indicator will display in green on the selected document along with
a label showing the key terms belonging to the document. These
terms contribute to the document's position in the Galaxy and ThemeView.
In the above example, the label corresponding to the probe initially
displays in smaller print than the peak label.
To make the label print larger, click Ctrl-T.
To shrink
the text, click Ctrl-Shift-T.
To use the Probe tool to check the contribution of terms within a group of documents, perform the following procedure.
Display the Summary tool by clicking on the Summary tool icon in the Galaxy toolbar.
Click the Probe button . The Probe cursor will display.
Left-click on the center point of the
area you want to select in the Galaxy or the ThemeView and drag to define
a circular area.
As you drag, a highlighted selection area will display.
Drag to increase or decrease the selection. The documents will highlight to indicate they have been selected.
Release the mouse button. The
Summary window will display the list of terms in the selection area and
their relative contribution to the dataset.
You can see the terms in other areas in the dataset by selecting another group of documents. The Summary window will automatically update to display the new set of terms.
While the Probe tool works similarly in both the Galaxy and ThemeView, in the ThemeView, it gives you some extra visualization capabilities.
When you zoom in on an area in the ThemeView and use Probe to select a document peak, those documents which share the peak label terms will highlight.
As you click and drag the mouse to select documents, the selection zone will display in the close-up view, enabling you to see how much of the document peak you are selecting.
You can sort any of the items in columns in the Summary window.
To sort in descending order, click on the column
header. The
sort order is indicated by the small down arrow preceding the column title.
To sort items in ascending order, click on the
column again. The
sort order is indicated by the small up arrow preceding the column title.
