The IN-SPIRE v4.0 software contains the following known issues. Check the list for work-around procedures for
Log file size
Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) 6 Help Display Issues
No provision exists to automatically trim the size of the log file, and if left unattended, it can grow quite large. Users should periodically check the IN-SPIRE install directory \DatasetRoot\log.txt to ensure that this file is not consuming too much disk space. If the file is found to be large and there is no known reason for keeping it, it may be deleted. When the application launches, a new log.txt file will be created.
Sometimes help will not display correctly in Internet Explorer (IE) version 6. This is due to Windows security patches that keep Active X controls from running. If you do not see the Table of Contents, Index, or Search panes, adjust your security settings to allow Active X controls to run. In many cases, a security warning will display below the menu bar of your browser. To enable Active X controls, perform the following procedure.
Click on the yellow security warning which displays under the browser menu bar when you initially select IN-SPIRE Help.
From the drop-down menu, select Allow Blocked Content. A Security Warning window will display.
Click Yes to allow the Active X controls to run. The Help system will display in the browser with the Table of Contents in the left pane and the help topic in the right pane.
For Client-server IN-SPIRE users, the Alt-click key combination may not work if you have certain applications running in the background that capture key clicks such as the Alt key. An example of this would be the GuruNet 1-Click Answers™ web applet, which pops up a dictionary definition for any word in any document (in any tool) if you place the mouse over the word and Alt-click. Similar applications that capture the Alt-click action may not work correctly within IN-SPIRE, and while they are running, the Alt-click command may not perform IN-SPIRE programmed actions.
To work around this issue, avoid or turn off tools that capture key/mouse data while running IN-SPIRE.
If you are using 1-Click Answers, a troubleshooting FAQ is available at their website which provides a work around.
