Ratings

The Ratings tool summarizes user-assigned document ratings that were made in the Document Viewer. For how the document rater itself works, see Using the Ratings Tool (below) or the Document Rater.

Accessing the Ratings Tool

To open the Ratings tool, select Tools > Ratings from the IN-SPIRE main menubar. The Ratings window appears.

Ratings Tool Window - Summary

Ratings shows you three different pictures of the evidence:

Look for numeric aggregate scores, percentage of documents rated for and against, and exact document counts under the summary and balance and on the histogram as in the following example.

Using the Ratings Tool

The Ratings tool requires groups containing rated documents.

  1. Create one or more groups. To create groups, you can either search and group the results; select documents in the Galaxy and create a new group in the Groups tool; or manually add documents to an existing group using the Document Viewer's Document Rater.
  2. In the Groups tool, highlight the groups you are interested in.
  3. Open the Document Viewer and choose Settings > Groups & Evidence Ratings. Columns for the groups you have highlighted will be added to the document table.
  4. Using the Document Rater, score documents with respect to whether they support or refute the hypothesis forming the basis of the group. Eliminate an irrelevant document from a group by rating it Not a Member.
  5. While the groups are highlighted in the Groups tool, a summary of the evidence for them will be displayed in the Summary legend on the Ratings window.
info icon By default, the order of the groups in the Ratings tool is their order in the Groups tool (their default order in the Document Viewer as well). Select View > Order by, and click on the drop-down menu to change the groups in the Ratings tool to Aggregate Value or Least Refuted.
