Removing Less Interesting Groups of Documents

IN-SPIRE shows the differences and similarities among documents in the dataset. The initial clumps or peaks of documents help to visually separate out less relevant documents. Once these are identified, you may want to push them aside to see the differences among the remaining documents. You can use Set Focus to ignore those documents.

To remove less interesting documents using Selection:

  1. Choose Select Document Button and Cursor from the Galaxy toolbar.
  2. Click and drag a selection rectangle around the clump of documents that you want to push aside.
  3. Right click on the total number of selected documents and select Add to Ignore or drag the current selection to the Set Focus "ignore" box.
  4. Click the FocusFocus button in Set Focusbutton.
See Adding Current Selection to Focus for more details.

To remove less interesting documents using Groups:

  1. Choose Select Document Button and Cursor from the Galaxy toolbar.
  2. Click and drag a selection rectangle around the clump of documents that you want to push side.
  3. In Groups, add a group and name it to remind yourself what type of documents are in the group (example: "junk"). The selection will automatically add to the group.
  4. Drag the group to the "ignore box" in the Set Focus panel.
  5. Continue to select documents that you want to eliminate from the display, and add them to the group by right-clicking on the group and selecting Add Selection to Group. When you think you have identified all the documents that you want to eliminate, click the FocusFocus button in Set Focusbutton.
  6. If you find additional documents that you want to ignore while examining the focused visualization, you can add them to the “junk” group and click the FocusFocus button in Set Focusbutton again.
